Mold Inspections and Mold Testing - What Is the Difference?
Got Questions?
We've Got Answers.

The following information will help you understand the difference between a mold inspection and mold testing. It will also explain what you can expect to learn from the findings that each of our services provides.
What Is A Mold Inspection (IN BRIEF)
A mold inspection is a non-invasive visual inspection for mold and conditions that cause mold. The purpose of a mold inspection is to visually identify and document two things: 1. visible indoor mold growth;  and 2. suspect conditions that are typically indicators of indoor mold growth.

Mold Testing (IN BRIEF)
Mold testing is done by collecting samples - either from a surface, or from the air, or from dust. The purpose of sampling to confirm or rule out that indoor mold growth is presently occurring, or has occurred in the past. Testing is not always necessary to prove indoor mold growth.

Mold Inspection (IN DETAIL)
How Is A Mold Inspection Done?   AMI mold inspections are performed using the latest non-destructive state-of-the-art technology such as infrared thermal imaging cameras and electronic moisture detection equipment. No physical damage is ever done to any structure. Few mold inspectors offer thermal imaging because of the high cost of infrared cameras. Those who do offer it typically charge $200 to $400 in addition to their standard inspection fees. But not AMI. thermal imaging is included in our standard mold inspection price. For more information on the role of thermal imaging cameras in mold inspections click here.

Mold inspections ALL AMI Certified Mold Inspectors are board-certified through the American Indoor Air Quality Council. Only AmIAQC Mold Inspector Certifications are accredited by the Council of Engineering & Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB).
